We are pleased to announce the publication of a Comment in Nature Reviews Physics co-authored by ASTeC's Ben Shepherd, alongside colleagues from the UK and international accelerator community: “Community-specific guidance for environmental sustainability in particle accelerators"

Read the article here.

Particle accelerators are essential tools for science, but their scale and complexity present unique environmental challenges. This Comment highlights why tailored sustainability guidance is needed for our field and introduces a living document designed to help facilities reduce their environmental impact while continuing to deliver world-class research.

The article calls on the global scientific community to collaborate on practical, field-specific solutions—balancing scientific progress with environmental responsibility.

You can also access Version 1 of the High-level Guidelines for Large Particle Accelerator Facilities on arXiv.

We invite you to explore the publication and join the conversation on how we can make accelerator science more sustainable.
